When you visit Capitol Kids,
it’s okay for your kids to explore.
We have this store because
we want kids around!

HAPPY WINTER
Now that our winter has finally arrived to Wisconsin, we are starting to get shipments of our spring clothing! Our inventory is complete and we have marked down some wonderful toys and books. Please help us make room. We invite you to celebrate the beginning of 2012 with great savings on a wide variety of winter clothing and select toys during our Big Sale.

Did you know?
– We carefully choose our toys to meet a wide range of developmental stages and interests.

– Our toys, games and books are educational, always fun and sometimes just weird and wacky. Many of our toys are heirloom quality.

– Kids love wearing our clothing, and their adults know that our choices are selected for practical but hip Madison customers.

– A gift from Capitol Kids is always special.  From tiny things that say "I am thinking of you" to elegant baby gifts, our selection gives you unique and thoughtful choices.

– The birthday party gift dilemma is solved. We always have a good range of interesting items between $8.00 and $20.00 ready to gift wrap for you and get you on the way to the party! Many people call us and we get their gifts ready to go. Curbside service is available when you charge your gifts over the phone.

OUR YouTube DEBUT
Check out Dane Buy Local's interview of Peg Scholtes, proprietor of Capitol Kids. Learn about the benefits of buying locally and discover why Capitol Kids is such a fun store for children and other playful people.
This great video interview provides a sneak peek of "what's in store" when you visit Capitol Kids.

How to find us: We are at 8 South Carroll Street, very close to West Washington Avenue on the Capitol Square. Find us between the Inn on the Park and Home Savings Bank. Look for our mascot, Webster the Bear, sitting outside the store. Here's a great map to help you find your way downtown, and to locate parking ramps. Or, visit Google Maps for detailed directions. Also, check out this handy Downtown Madison Get Around Guide to help you navigate the 2010 construction season.

Capitol Kids StorefrontYes, you can park downtown! In fact, for the first time in more than 30 years, there is parking on our side of the street on the Capitol Square. Check out the meters right in front of the store. There are also spaces just around the corner on both sides of the block. If you’re really lucky you can park for one hour in designated spaces on the Capitol side for free. The Dane County ramp is less than two blocks away and the State Street ramp is less than three blocks away.

Capitol Kids is locally-owned and operated by mother-daughter team Peg Scholtes and Jenna Hansen. They share the job of buying clothing for the store. Both are at the store most of the time – ready to play with kids and help customers.

Capitol Kids Owners Peg Scholtes and Jenna HansenPeg has a long history of working with kids and families in Madison. After 25 years it was time to try something new – but it had to involve kids and have an impact on the community! In 2000, yearning to be downtown, Peg decided to open Capitol Kids on Webster Street and relocate her home to a nearby condo. By 2002, business was booming! To keep up with the growth, Capitol Kids moved to its current location on the Capitol Square, making Peg's dream for a new store a reality.

Jenna
is the mother of two and has experience in retail and business operations. Jenna uses our products, washes our clothing, knows how our brands wear and what toys stand the test of time. She also selects children’s literature. She brings practicality into the store.
