TOY SAFETY

Protect your kids from harmful toys!
All of us at locally (and family) owned Capitol Kids take the issue of toy safety seriously. We want you to know what we are doing and what you can do to keep kids safe. When you shop at Capitol Kids, we want you to shop in confidence.

We carefully select our toys to delight our customers – children and those who care about and for them.

Feel free to ask us about toy safety when you are shopping at our store. We hope that this brief review of our standards will help you choose safe toys no matter where you shop.

How to find us: We are at 8 South Carroll Street, very close to West Washington Avenue on the Capitol Square. Find us between the Inn on the Park and Home Savings Bank. Look for our mascot, Webster the Bear, sitting outside the store.

Yes, you can park downtown! In fact, for the first time in more than 30 years, there is parking on our side of the street on the Capitol Square. Check out the meters right in front of the store. There are also spaces just around the corner on both sides of the block. If you’re really lucky you can park for one hour in designated spaces on the Capitol side for free. The Dane County ramp is less than two blocks away and the State Street ramp is less than three blocks away. Here's a great map to help you find your way downtown.

Capitol Kids is locally-owned and operated by mother-daughter team Peg Scholtes and Jenna Hansen. They share the job of buying clothing for the store. Both are at the store most of the time – ready to play with kids and help customers.

Peg has a long history of working with kids and families in Madison. After 25 years it was time to try something new – but it had to involve kids and have an impact on the community! In 2000, yearning to be downtown, Peg decided to open Capitol Kids on Webster Street and relocate her home to a nearby condo. By 2002, business was booming! To keep up with the growth, Capitol Kids moved to its current location on the Capitol Square, making Peg's dream for a new store a reality.

Jenna
is the mother of two and has experience in retail and business operations. Jenna uses our products, washes our clothing, knows how our brands wear and what toys stand the test of time. She also selects children’s literature. She brings practicality into the store.
